In the latest crisis to strike the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, operator Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) has discovered that 300 tons (nearly 72,000 gallons) of highly radioactive water has leaked from a holding tank into the ground over the past month.

The development comes on top of TEPCO's admission last month that an estimated 300 tons of radioactive groundwater, which picks up small amounts of contamination when it flows through the damaged reactor buildings, has been leaking into the Pacific Ocean every day.

While the Fukushima situation is pretty fucked, I believe that image is the one that was found being circulated through the media even though it was totally the wrong picture. I believe that image showed the original tsunami wave pattern rather than any radiation contamination (hence the scale in cm rather than say, rads). Not saying that the contamination isn't bad, just that it's the wrong picture misleadingly showing data that has nothing to do with radiation. Once again, the media rerererererererereblogging the wrong information without checking their facts.

Aye, I thought it was legit when I posted it but soon realised I might have been had.

The other thing I've been seeing n all is that 300,000 tons of radiated water is leaking into the ocean everyday, making it sound like a pipe is just pumping water straight from the reactor. I've also been seeing that it's the ground that's been contaminated by a leaky 300,000 ton tank that eventually gets washed into the sea. Which I believe is a pretty big difference

edit: Kinda sucks how it kinda hangs around on your doorstep.

If I remember correctly we had the "hero" turtles at first here as well. The turtles were rebranded to hero turtles for the UK market due to the term "ninja" being deemed too violent
