I know that still showing sizes of stuff in space has been posted several times before, but seeing this in video gives a somewhat better sense of scale, with the zooming out and the grid below.

Mostly a meaningless statement considering the size of the Sun is already outside the realm of human comprehension.
One way to think of it could be this:
A million seconds is about 11 days.
A billion seconds is almost 32 years.
So if the Sun was 1 second, Canis Majoris is 32 years.
*shrug*
Still doesn't mean much.

Now I thought a billion was a different number, depending on where on this small planet you were from
Seems I was correct at some place in time.
How many is a billion?
In British English, a billion used to be equivalent to a million million (i.e. 1,000,000,000,000), while in American English it has always equated to a thousand million (i.e. 1,000,000,000). British English has now adopted the American figure, though, so that a billion equals a thousand million in both varieties of English.
The same sort of change has taken place with the meaning of trillion. In British English, a trillion used to mean a million million million (i.e. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000). Nowadays, it's generally held to be equivalent to a million million (1,000,000,000,000), as it is in American English.
