I've been on TekSavvy for years. I recommended it to Mazda and from what he has said I think he's pretty happy with it too.
Here's what you need to know:
The infrastructure for TekSavvy is going to be using the exact same network as Bell or Rogers on either DSL or cable, respectively. So if you're on Rogers cable now and you switch to TekSavvy cable, you will get the exact same reliability and performance as what you already have because it is the exact same line. If Rogers cable goes down, so does TekSavvy. If the line coming to your house can get a max of 3mbits/s on Rogers even though you're paying for a higher plan, unfortunately that's what you will still get on TekSavvy. Zero difference.
So why switch? TekSavvy is willing to provide more service for cheaper.
- Cheaper prices
- No contracts
- Much higher caps or unlimited options
- Actually useful phone support where you don't have to wait for 6 hours on hold
- A company that supports net neutrality and is against UBB or other stupid shit the big telecoms are trying to pull
Other considerations:
Because TekSavvy doesn't own any of the infrastructure (aside from in Chatham), they don't have any technicians. If you need to fix a physical issue with the line coming to your house, all TekSavvy can do is send a work order to Bell/Rogers and they will send one of
their technicians to fix the problem. So if the technician misses the appointment or does some stupid shit like dig up your prized geraniums or breaks a window, don't blame TekSavvy, they didn't send the big hairy guy with the ass-crack. Most of the complaints against TekSavvy on DSLReports are directed at technicians or downtime, both of which are not TekSavvy's fault.
So really, while TekSavvy is still tied to the infrastructure of Bell/Rogers, they are still way better than the big guys in every way that is in their control. So if you just want cheaper rates and better value, you might as well make the switch and save some money. If you're getting poor connections because Rogers has neglected maintaining the lines in your area, you might want to switch infrastructure, try TekSavvy DSL or something.
Oh yeah, one more reason to switch... unlike Rogers, TekSavvy will also never
ruin the credit rating of someone who has never even been a customer, or bill someone who is two years deceased and also never a customer. You can't even make shit like this up.

I'm actually considering a switch to Vmedia cable. They're offering cheaper activation fees and better value for unlimited 25/2 cable. Teksavvy is a good company but lately their tech support and customer service have been impossible to get a hold. They've also had tons of outages and capacity issues around the GTA. My DSL connection has also been really spotty recently and I'm at the mercy of clueless Bell technicians who fix one thing and break another every week.
Vmedia was started by George Burger who was also a prominent figure for Teksavvy's fight against Bell and the UBB. I'm just trying to gauge how their cable quality is in Mississauga before making the switch.

a Co-worker is on V-media, He's reporting ~1Mb slower than the package but running flawless so far.

I heard they run on the same aggregated POIs as CIKTEL which don't have a great track record when it comes to peak hour usage.
Anyways, I just signed up with Teksavvy's 25/2 cable today. DSL can suck it.

Not sure the specifics,
But one of the worst decisions that i've made was switching from Teksavvy's 28/1 package to their 45/4.
this has been my speedtest since the package change:
Along with High SNR, Disconnections, Etc... its been two months of Calling tech support and sending rogers more and more fucking tickets.

I don't even see 28/1 as an option. Did you have issues with it?
TS told me I should be able to see ~27-28Mb down off-peak and never below 15 with the 25/2. We'll see if that's true.

Its not anymore, it was the first cable options once it went live.
i was pulling up to 65Mbit down ( readyboost ) with the 1Mbit up without a fault, I wanted the 4Mbit upload for the additional $4/month ( no brainier, right? )
The 10th ticket just came back with "No problem found" again....
Time to give them another call.

I was thinking about Start as well, got a friend who uses them and he's happy. Their packages are a bit pricier though, which is a shame, because I hear they're a lot like Teksavvy 5-6 years ago.
Maybe that's an option with you if TS is letting you down, although we are at the mercy of Hell/Robbers either way.

All childish name calling aside, i fully understand that the issue(s) that i'm experencing was and is currently due to rogers.
My aggravation comes from teksavvy's lack of "push" towards rogers for support, all they can do is submit a ticket and wait 24-48 hours to hear all is ok... Over and over.
I got off with a support rep at teksavvy shortly after the last post requesting an update for my ticket(s)... After being on hold for 5mins for him to catch up, he requested my line stats and submitted them to rogers again... Again being the 16th time to date.
I actually blew up when he said the whole "i've submitted the ticket to rogers, should hear back in 24-48 hours... Anything else i can help with?"
Not proud of my actions at all, once i was "done" venting he put me on hold for another 3 mins to "see what i can do" to only follow up with "i've add'd that to the rogers ticket"
Fml...
