One of George RR Martin's earlier works is a sci-fi horror short story called Sandkings. It's a very cool read and worth checking out. It was the basis for the Simpsons halloween episode "The Genesis Tub" where Lisa had a civilization in a dish and Bart goes to war with them. There are some pdf, epub, and html versions online.

Shitty Outer Limits episode loosely based on the story:

I remember that Outer Limits episode fondly... Guess I better search for it. Thanks for the reminder/prod.

wow, I read that story a few years ago and loved it. It was in a collection of sci fi shorts, and I didn't pay attention to the author's name (and I didn't even know who Martin was back then). Very cool!

If you liked the episode, you'll love the original story even more. I can see why they had to change the story so much for cable tv and budget reasons back in '95 though.

Will do bitWISE & big thanks feedback

This whet my appetite and found the Outer Limits episode so easily :smirk: but yet to view. Lloyd Bridges & son look so young.
