Evolve, the four-on-one shooter from Left 4 Dead creator Turtle Rock and publisher 2K, will launch this fall for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with pre-orders open now. Order the game through Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop, Target, Toys R Us or Wal Mart to receive the Monster Expansion Pack, which includes the Savage Goliath skin at launch (for the game's first monster, Goliath), and adds a new monster once that's released later on. All pre-orders are available here.
One for the L4D fans me thinks

Yeah it sounds like a lot of fun. Watch for horrible balancing issues tho

I remember there was a time when the novelty of a 4 vs 1 gameplay of sorts was simply a mod for an existing game. Not sure why anyone would need to get excited about this.

Why? I mean, 4 vs 1 gameplay is hardly a novelty anymore. What does this game bring to the table I haven't seen in half a million other games already?

Neither is shooting, racing, flying, fighting, 3rd person, strategy....what you are saying is "it's been done it's boring". By that statement, we shouldn't have enjoyed any FPS after Wolfenstien 3D or Doom at a push. As most things have been done with games, perhaps we shouldn't get excited about any new games any more?
Things evolve (pardon the pun) and progress and get refined. They had two cracks of the whip with L4D and did extremely well. I fail to see why this new game wont add to the 4 play co-op experiences of yore and I also fail to see why we shouldn't look forward to such things.

I think Eraser's point is that there isn't anything in particular to be excited about yet. If someone says they are making a FPS game, it's nothing to be excited about based on that alone, there are a million other FPS games and nothing to set this particular one apart. It might be a project to keep an eye on, but there's very little information about it yet.
Either that and he means something else completely, in which case he's a moron.

Nah, obsidian's on the money.
Just the 4v1 thing isn't tickling my balls yet.

has anyone ever made a FPS where it's possible to trip over obstacles and fall on your face like IRL?

The closest you'll get is Mirror's Edge.

Saw the Kotaku video. Looks neat, but I wonder how they bring a little strategy into it. Looks a bit like it all ends up a bullet spitting contest for the soldiers and a stomp left and right thing for the monster.

There's a pretty cool preview video here:

While the video is about an hour long, it's only an 8 minutes long match, but recorded from a number of different perspectives, starting off with a multi-perspective playthrough with commentary.

This actually looks pretty good.
The main concern of course: balancing. Impossible to get 100% right. No matter how well thought out, there *will* be exploiting *something* along the line, as players get to grips with the mechanics.
