Ipod question..

My old (ancient) mp3 played is in its' last days and I am considering these Ipod things*
* Understand, I recently bought a Samsung tablet (trying to avoid 'I' technology)
Now I think they need you to install Itunes on your PC to copy my music files across and ensure they are legit.
Am I correct?
It's just that I have so many tracks from probably dubious sources collected over the years* mixed with some my legit CD collection.
*2008 cant be right - Ah, I see, built this PC then

Ipod and itunes are both fucking retarded. I just use my phone for tunes but maybe that is too advanced. Just find an mp3 player with a fuckin sdcard in it, mount it as a drive, away you go.

Yes, for sure
mrd , thinking that's the best way to go (IMO) but just checking the Ipod software required was ensuring tracks are legit
Don't get me wrong. I have lots of CDs but some of my favourite tracks are, how to put this, I suspect rare & unique.
Where in the www could I find something like ....
Queen - Great King Rat (Rare Live Version- 4- 21- 1974)
Bugger, I searched
rare in my music folder and had 52 hits
Try these for size.... I know they are out there but suspect they are still rare
- David Bowie & Marianne Faithfull - I got you babe (very rare) .............. advanced google search - No results
Bob Dylan - Congratulations (Birmingham June 89 - very rare) .............advanced google search - No results
Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever - Rare Bootleg...............................advanced google search - No results
John Lennon - Rare Demo 1980 - Saved my Soul.................................One advanced google search

Yes you need itunes for an ipod.
No it doesn't check if its "legit".
The source doesn't matter.

if you need a special piece of software on your PC in order to put tracks on your mp3 player, you've got the wrong mp3 player

This.
Or if you're a stick in the mud who has to do things by managing your media files manually by sticking them into folders for artists, albums, etc., get a Sandisk Sansa.

get a sony walkman from the 90's
then get a bunch of early 90's cassettes
all analogue listening with no ear fatigue
those old units went wayyyy louder than todays bollock units so they work well for playing along on drums!

i have a 160GB ipod classic. itunes is (barely) tolerable for management, but do NOT rip anything with it. ever. with my old ipod (16GB?) i used a 3rd party management app that I can't remember the name of, but it was just as buggy as itunes.
i'd use my phone except for battery life and capacity... which are about the two most important things for a portable music player.

I can attest to this. I bought a Sansa Clip+ about 4 years ago and I still use it. I'v been using a 16GB microSD card, but that can easily go up now and I could get my entire music collection on it if I wanted. It browses songs using a folder directory, so it's super easy to manage music transfers from the PC. Plus it's super small with smartly laid out buttons. And dirt cheap

Update for info.
Player arrived but the supplied USB lead was faulty

I was able to prove borrowing one from a friend.
Unit works OK but the G sensor (orientation) seems a little dicky. Might just be me holding the unit at angles, but it is probably a cheap chip anyway. Photos take ages to load (yes, what did I expect for just over ten bucks) and I have yet to play a video... FM radio and mp3 portion OK..
Still I am looking at those Ipod things
