Think I've already got this on Steam but I may as well add another game to Origin to keep Battlefield company. Cheers.

Why ?, it's free. Even when EA try to tackle piracy with good marketing they get castrated.
What's Valve given us for free ?, not including homebrew devs that they can make money on if successful or weekend deals for a demo.

Wey, that's pretty shocking ;o

EA offered Deadspace for free as part of their apology for the botched release of Simcity last year, don't forget. How generous of them to offer it for free to everyone else now. Fuck EA. Fuck Origin.

And Valve doesn't need to give anything away for free because they put out ridiculously good deals on games
all the time on Steam. And they are constantly updating and innovating their services with things like Steam Greenlight, Early Access, Big Picture Mode, their new controller, VR support... What has Origin done lately? A free 5-year-old game? Woo!
Edit: Speaking of which, the new Tomb Raider is $5 today on Steam.

Fuck the Total War series for Rome II n all ?, Bethesda for New Vegas + Skyrim ?, R* for GTA5 ?. None of these gave us free shit as we waited for shit to be fixed.
I love to bash EA as much as the next guy, I've hated them since their acquisition of Westwood Studios but bashing free shit is cutting your nose off to spite your face

They could allow me to activate my 15 year old copy of HL1 on Steam, and I wouldn't call it innovation but more tests at making more money, they don't have to make games anymore. Cunterstrike for example as been turned into a moneybag for custom maps / weps and been completely ruined, but this kind of DLC is cool cos it's good old Valve

I'm pretty sure those things are one and the same.

Nah, just new ways of marketing, back in the day if someone made a map it was made for the community by the community, if it was good enough it never needed Valves help with marketing. Now if you like a map / mod / skin / early access you have to pay for it through Steam after being supplied via Steam. Innovation points towards progress, in this aspect I think it's going backwards.
Oh yea and big screen is just a home screen for their store
I don't wanna bash them too much because as a distributor they're fantastic, but they aren't white knights.

There was a completely free internet beforehand and I disagree, the scene is nowhere near the same, the homebrew servers from WoN 1.5 to GO have been on a steady decline into a wasteland, the competitive scene has been squashed into single entity, before you had plenty of different clan ladders and the constant tweaking has been apparent since 1.6 and has steadily forced people away from the scene, only to pick it back up once rectified for it to happen all over again. A game this old should'nt need balancing.
Just because it ranks above the rest doesn't mean its got better, CS1.5 was one of the most DLed mods of all time.

I havn't used the losCHUNK acct for games in ages, my brother has a larger catalogue

. Like I said though, a game this old should not need balancing, they add stuff to it only to break it, to have it rectified again in a quest for new blood and tailor it towards new users and future sales, it's dumbed down. If you were around in the 1.6 days you should remember the shields. Adding arbitrary rules, like limiting the AWP or restricting match sizes, even the 'fog' or telling you what maps you can and can't play doesn't make a game, allowing the community the freedom is what helped CS become the game it was but now everything is squashed into 1 entity through Valves competitive play it's become a game full of the same old shit.
And yea, they do, they'll bitch and bitch and bitch, about tyres, smaller wings, engines, Kers or eRSK etc

I wouldn't of mentioned his account otherwise...
The shields was an extreme example of their meddling since the 1.6 days and how it's continued and yes I used too, you know this. It used to be 2v2, 4v4, 5v5, 6v6 etc, each having different leagues and all requiring different approaches to how the game was played but now everything is nerfed for competitive play, even the AWP restriction. Hence the same old shit to an unsubstantial point
It's become a battlefield / COD rank system, which was / is shit.

How so? Spray patterns have changed, map glitches patched, but dumbed down and 'nerfed'? Not on your life Jimmy.
The only people who balancing ever bothers are those that rely on lop-sided exploits and little-known glitches for success. This is most of the people who refuse to move on from 1.6. Besides, it's entertaining to continue to learn and adapt. If something is overpowered (like the notorious time of the Deagle buff), then every bugger just uses it and
that's when the game gets stale and predictable. Balancing at least attempts to keep everything viable and encourages learning more than just what shit is best to win.
Truth, to the point where you've had to move the goal posts as much as CS:GO

. I'm not talking bout glitches used in pre-GO days so much, I'm talking about the match making / community / restricted freedoms, it's all been rolled into 1 format. If they simply slotted CS:S into prettier graphics with fixed bugs it would be better. If you want to talk about the gltiches then you know this meddling just creates further problems down the line when they have to nerf another aspect of the game and reset the playing field when a new pistol is introduced or they accidentally overpowered the AUG

, or shields... which brings us back to one of my original points of forcing away current users only to pick it back up once rectified.

Of course it has. The difference is that it's there for those that want it. Those that don't can simply avoid matchmaking and play any number of community servers of various types without any care of rank or stats whatsoever.
That's not what competitive CS was, it's dumbed down and streamlined and why CS:GO is different with a new user base

Matchmaking is mostly dependent on your rank which is only there for those who wish to use it
And I'll go back to this

Updating games would be fixing bugs, they keep moving the goal posts.

Totally, but in this case I'm bang on the money
You cannot say the community of pre-go is the same. The ranking system was always a worry and is what made BF2 kinda gay in much the same way. Without going into updates, DLC, restricted maps or competitive play.

Then... don't play ranked games?

Re: Deadspace - Free

That's what it is geared towards now, clan ladders / matches and competitive play, no more variety. In these cases maps like dust2, or dm6++ for quake would never be famous and if they were they'd be packaged into a map pack to be purchased no doubt. Casual play then leaves you with all the trolls that just want to grief.

Why you pinning all your arguement on one of my last points ?, is it cos you can't bash any others ?. Matchmaking is flawed, you know this hence you don't use it, if you only play casual servers with no rank then there's no wonder why you think you're good.
CS is now geared towards competive play, a lot of servers now follow the same rules / map cycles that competitive play uses, casual servers have and always will be shite and why this game completely differs from what <CS:S was and how it's a completely different breed now, being geared towards competitive play, 5v5 to test your skills against new opponents etc, you can't do this on community servers anymore. It's always with randomers if you want different settings.
If you like games that keep resetting the foundations of play then fair enough, but to say that this game is an improvement I will disagree, it is different, before you could have competitive matches in whatever fashion you please, now you're stuck with playing with the same group of friends on casual servers with no community backed projects supporting the variety that was once on offer, if you want to play a decent match without any grief / quitters / noobs.
btw, competitive play before go was always arranged on community / clan servers, so don't get confused with real competitive games and CS:GOs version

Foundations of play / moving goal posts = shit like shields, overpowered augs, the ability to restrict AWP, new weps that completely upsets the balance that are later fixed, restricted maps
Competive VS Casual / Community = In the pre-go days competitive matches were on community servers arranged by community backed projects in whatever fashion you please. Now your stuck with a bunch of randomers on community servers that are likely there to cause grief hence why they are not playing competitively, you can;t play competitively with a bunch of randomers anyway, it's impossible. If not then you will be playing people you already know which makes for a stale game over time. Not to mention players will be match made with you. The user backed projects disapeared because of the GO competitive matches, which forces you to play particular maps in particular ways.
By destroying the community you no longer have community hosted competitive matches, by avoiding play of ranked you are stuck with playing no namers or the same crowd.
