There are a number of guides written that allows you to tweak Rage's graphics to enable 4K/8K or even higher texture resolutions.

The original resolution for those photos is 1080p, and don't look particularly impressive to me.

Hey dumbos, 4096x4096 pixel textures != 4096 horizontal resolution screenshots.

My point was that the image is detailed enough to be able to critique texture quality, which I think is lacking.

Some of those screenshots have a painting-like quality over them, almost like it's concept artwork. I love it.
I think the next Doom game uses idTech 5 as well.

Never finished Rage, is it worth bothering?

The "ending" is total shit. If I remember correctly, you're in the middle of what seems like just another firefight, same as the ones preceding it, and the game just... ends.

Otherwise, there's some fun to be had with the game. Gun-play is good. It's got that id sense of physicality to movement. Animation is superb.

However, knee-high obstacles that can't be jumped over break flow quite frequently.
The game feels like it should be open world, but isn't.
Megatexture tech looks great from a distance and like hammered shit up close.
And it suffers massively from "nailed down" syndrome. Hardly anything that looks like it should do, reacts as a physics object.

Not id's finest hour, but not a complete write-off.

Was the DLC they released not terribly long ago any good?

Yeah I remember now why I stopped playing. Constant invisible walls, it's like you're stuck in a glass bubble which lets you see everything but not interact.
