For now over a decade, Discovery’s popular show MythBusters has helped put an end to longstanding myths relating to popular culture, news stories, and everyday life. For next week’s January 31st episode, they’re taking their expertise to video games.
In this special episode dedicated to the hobby near and dear to our hearts, we’re excited that id Software’s own Tim Willits will be helping Adam and Jamie dig into an often-discussed topic of FPS games: Is it really possible for someone to carry all those health packs, guns, and even a chainsaw? Using the DOOM universe and DOOM 3 BFG Edition for reference, Tim helps the team recreate a DOOM level in real life.

Catch the episode on Discovery on Saturday, January 31st at 9/8c. For more details, visit the show’s page

I don't need an hour long show to answer that question...

It jumped the shark a while ago. I stopped watching when seemingly every episode was promotion for other shows on the network or movies.

I still love their early ones, especially before 'the build team' came on and went separate.

I think the original question was "can you remove hardened cement out of a cement truck with explosives", referring to the bottom of the barrel job of manually getting it out with a jackhammer and why there's no easier alternative.

after which they decided to fill it up with dynamite or some such because.. well mythbusters.

Yeah the myth was that you could clear out dried cement from the inside of the truck with a stick of dynamite.

Their schtick is that the first replicate the conditions of the myth. Then, if they aren't successful, they go to ridiculous extremes to duplicate the results. This was an example of that. The episode started with a firecracker and move on to blowing a truck into a million tiny pieces. For funsies.

Also remembering back I think they did it cause their team fucked up and filled the truck up instead of just coating the sides.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. They did a few episodes of classic physics experiments and they were pretty sweet. That one with the truck and cannon took them a while to get but when they did...pretty cool.

Here's the cement truck one, also escaping prison with salsa.

I can't even remember what the one with the rocket sled was about ?, I just remember the speed that the sled took off at.

I remember the truck and ball, I think I might've even cheered when they managed to nail it.

Aye the salsa and electrodes one was cool n all, was surprised to see it work

Yeah I was just googling them to find out, here are some of the physics things they did: http://www.whiteboardblog.co.uk/2010/08 ... -teachers/

The sled one they were trying to see if a compact car would actually pancake in an accident with two trucks and so of course their ridiculous extreme is to hit a car with a rocket sled.

Also messing with sulfur hexoflouride https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4hUNOpyeFY

the more important question is, can you actually outrun a rocket launched from an rpg

Only if you launch yourself with a jumppad assisted rocket jump.

Not sure if any of you caught the episode, but while it was hardly scientific it was at least somewhat entertaining and with a somewhat unexpected result.

I caught it. I kept thinking that they needed to go the route they eventually did. I was a little surprised with the result though.
