Jesus fucking christ ryo, that's messed up.

RADAR data shows the plane took a rapid descent.
@flightradar: Flight #4U9525 was descending with a rate of about 3000-4000 feet per minute, which is quite standard for an airport approach.
[lvlshot]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CA27t6JUIAAQZTO.png[/lvlshot]

There was no distress call during the 8 minute descent, it suggests that it was a controlled and the engines were running. Obs post mentions the plane had a routine check on Monday n all after regular inspection last summer. The pilot has 10+ yrs experience with over 6000hrs on Airbus models.

Also the wreckage is reported to be spread over a large area n all, (2000m-20,000sqm depending on the report you read).

The plane is 24 years old, which is old but may not mean anything.

TLDR: Cause could be anything, I reckon it's something along the lines of instrument failure but reports say there was 16 kids from the same school and 2 babies on the plane. Fucked up :/

EDIT: and now the black box has been found, just seen Guardian are doing live updates

Fuck. I just want to travel without fearing for my life. And yes, I understand the statistics of flying and driving and all that shit. But it's hard to get on a plane after reading and seeing this...

Dunno if this will help settle you and not to be flippant but -

1 crashes and 10s of thousands carry on as normal. Just don't fly private, the excellent safety record only really applies to commercial airlines.

Yep, same here. I was flying back from a shoot yesterday, and the pilot kept dipping the nose throughout the flight. I don't know why he was doing it, but it was completely unpleasant. It gave that exact same feeling in the stomach as being on a roller coaster as it goes over the lip of a big drop. It was terrifying, and I can now feel the beginnings of a slight fear of flying.
