The beautiful metal reflection in q3tourney4

Even by today's standard, the real-time metal reflection in quake 3 q3tourney 4 looks beautiful. It approximates a dx9 effect with OpenGL1.2

This is a semi-reflective material (unlike a mirror).

I wonder could this reflection be applied to other non-reflective materials in quake 3, suck as wall bricks? This would make stones look like polished granite.
