My wife and I will be moving to Amsterdam for 3 months starting in January 2018. Any recommendations for where we should try to find a place to live with easy access to the University?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but we just found out about this opportunity so things are a bit of a blur at the moment.

As you can see tho it's most dense in the center, which is also obviously the hardest district to find residence. Doesn't the Uni offer housing options for expats?

Will you be working for / with the university? If yes, they should be able to help you with this.

If no, good luck finding something affordable Amsterdam is in a permanent housing crisis and everything is wildly expensive, especially in the centre. What MKJ said; a lot depends on where your uni is and what your budget would be. Then again, it's a relatively small city with excellent public transport and if you arrange bikes it's all very doable looking for something cheaper that's a little more out of the way.

Why not take the less glamorous option and live somewhere outside of Amsterdam and commute there with public transport?
