What I like about this is that, unlike a lot of Quake II But Fancy! mods, the change is one of atmosphere rather than swapping out character models and textures for hyper-detailed ones. Light and shade, explosions changing the whole tone of the room rather than just a corner of it, all these different gradations of shadow, lights that cast light like lights do.

nifty - though of all the games that could really pop with this technology, i wouldn't pick Q2 as #1 on my list

maybe HL2/Eps

also, i'd forgotten how annoying and repetitive the soundscape in that level is :|

I dunno, it's an old game thats not packed with polys, so it was easy to make run well and show how much of a difference it makes to the visuals.

HL2 would probably destroy most PCs when using RT tech, but look beautiful.

Be nice to see if anyone makes the effort. I am guessing it takes some work to do.

I'm just thinking of the wide open spaces, vast water areas and considerably higher poly count? It looks like the Q2 video stutters to me...

I'll get an RTX card and let you know ;)

Gonna have to give this a whirl.

EDIT: After playing around more. Yeah this is pretty damn neat. And runs just fine. 8700k @ 5ghz + 2080ti (60-80 fps)

Eep...so it really is a destroyer of frame rates currently. I guess it will be refined a little and optimised a plenty.

Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Yeah I mean. Its not the 90000 fps it can do without it but its totally playable and I couldn't feel any dips really. Real neat.

Unless I'm missing something this doesn't add that much?

After seeing the Battlefield V ray tracing I think I'm spoiled. The marble effect looks great (4:02)

Thanks for the video PhoeniX. I'd be spoilt too.
That's a pretty impressive video, the detail is to die for. The reflections on the gloss paint and the wet bricks under the bridge

I may need a new video card. I currently have a GTX980Ti so I had a look online for these 2080 Ti cards  I better start saving 'cause I see they are over $2K (AUD)?

I guess thats the difference between a huge publisher and a game made for 2018/2019 and a bloke in a Uni creating the effect for a game made in 1997 :ninja:
