For those who don’t know, lvlworld is the largest database of custom Quake 3 Arena maps on the internet. It has 2500+ unique releases and for this jam, Tig has compiled a list of older maps that would benefit from a refresh. The goal is to keep the raw layout of these maps intact and focus solely on what can be done with them visually. This is all about showing off your artistic skill.

The rules are simple: Pick a map from the list below (other maps won’t be accepted), give it a complete visual overhaul, but keep the raw layout intact. You can decompile the original map and use that as a base, or you can remake it from scratch. You are also not bound to the original theme and you are free to take it in whatever direction you want.

In terms of the layout, we like to use Blood Covenant from Quake Champions as an example. Despite several changes and a complete visual overhaul, it’s still instantly recognizable and maintains largely the same layout and flow. So, you can knock down a wall, add a shortcut or small alternative route and so on as long as the main raw layout survives! Here are the maps:

Mustaine Madness by ParadoX
grey matter by Zippie
Atomic Flow by Cole Savage
I Like Your Hair Long by vedder
final shutdown by McBugzz
Spank Me! Chapter One by spanksteR
Blood Cage by McBugzz
Victimized by Kit Carson
Battle zone by Quid

You can let us know your pick in our jam channel and we’ll keep an updated list there for all to see. You can also suggest maps in this https://lvlworld.com/thread/583/0. Multiple participants can pick the same map, as long as you make sure your themes differ.

Starts July 10th and ends July 26th, followed by a public playtesting period. There will be no extensions. Participants must give themselves the jamming role per the instructions outlined within the rules . Submit your map by making a post in the playtesting-forum and pinging Sprony along with the Playtesters role. Must include your .map, .bsp and a .txt readme. You can join the Map-Center Discord here.
