Insecure Network

Man, I got another buddy who just bought a router and hooked up his laptop. Its got XP Home. In network settings, it shows that the wireless connection is not secure. His XP firewall is on and he also has a router. Is this anything to worry about.

he needs to set up at the VERY least WEP encryption and MAC filtering.

This would be done through the router settings right?

It is a Linksys router

yep. iirc, type 192.168.1.1 and have the username / password handy.

i disable ssid, and enable mac addy.. thats all :)

i have the SSID as default, Enable mac addy, Then add the mac adress's. then Change the ssid, and manually join the computers around the house. this way i dont need to deal with WEP, it knocked down my signal on one of my pc's to ~5-10% from 30%.. this i couldent have.

then your router sucks.
