"No response from master server"

I was trying to play Quake 3 last night with some friends and either I couldn't connect to them (I would get the "awaiting challenge" countdown but never connect) or they'd try connecting to me and it would be the same deal. They could connect to each other though.

Then when I go into the Multiplayer, I would get 'No Response From Master Server". I did finally connect to one of them after a few hours of trying last night, but then I tried to connect today and I get the same message.

I have a router and I opened ports for the game. I allowed it through my firewall and then even shut the firewall off. My two friends seem to have no problem with it and can connect to one another. It seems I'm the one with the issues and I figured I'd post here and maybe someone else has gone through this.

Oh, and I've played it before on this computer, about a month or so ago. I haven't changed anything (except I got a new cable modem) and I upgraded my router firmware. Everything else is the same though. Same goes for Urban Terror. Can't play that either.

Help! Any other information that you may need, just ask.

Btw, my name is Jen.

Make sure that the Windows Firewall isn't blocking Quake. Look for a shield in the taskbar.

A lot of people have this problem. Read my reply from another thread:
The in-game server browser is utter shit. There is nothing wrong with your computer...it takes forever to load and sometimes doesn't even load anything...the solution is simple. Get The All-Seeing Eye.

I downloaded that and I could see servers but I click on them, Quake loads and it says 'Awaiting challenge' with the countdown. So I'm thinking it's definately my computer. Just trying to find out why I can't get online with Quake but can get online with others, like Diablo II.

I just can't understand why I can't get online with Quake. I haven't done anything different like I mentioned in my post except the new cable modem and my router firmware upgrade. Anything else I should check?

I'm guessing it's the router...Maybe the firmware upgrade closed some ports or something? I don't know much about routers...But I can tell you most servers use port "27960". So if you can figure out how to open the ports back up, that might fix it. (If that's even the problem).

And another thing you can try (if you havn't already), install the latest patch, Point Release 1.32:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3 ... se_132.exe

I got the new point release and I had ports 27955 to 27965 opened on my router. This problem seems to have everyone baffled. My boyfriend (one of the people I tried connecting to) is the one that had me to do all this prior. So I guess there really isn't anything left to try..at least, for now.

Thanks! I guess I'll just pray that the magic Quake fairy will come and fix it overnight. Bah, and I really wanted to play.
