MP3 trouble

I have some mp3s that I just can't play. Winamp and Windows Media will not play them. It's not that they're actually playing and there's no audio -- they won't even start the timer. Winamp doesn't give me an error message, but Windows Media says that the file extension isn't recognized, but it is .mp3 so I'm not sure what's going on.
Any ideas?

just because the extension says .mp3 doesn't mean it is one. i take it these were downloaded, so i'm not going to help you.

Mogul, in Winamp select the file in the playlist and press Alt+3. That'll tell you if it's an MP3 or not.
