I'm at a complete loss as to why I keep getting disconnected. Since being upgraded to 1Mbps, I was disconnected approximately every hour. I've tried various things, like, reinstalled the modem software, cleared spyware and viruses, disabled all the disconnect boxes, and used different usb sockets. Today, I moved my pc close to the wall telephone socket, so that I didn't have to use the telephone extension cable. I'm currently going direct into the wall using the RJ11 modem cable into the adsl filter. It still disconnected after 58 minutes. I reconnected, and this time it stayed connected for 2 hours and then disconnected. I have no idea why, and I have no idea why it disconnected again. I assume the connection is stronger without the extension cable since it stayed online for 2 hours, and I was about to buy an RJ11 extension cable thinking I'd solved the problem, until it disconnected again. I thought it would either disconnect after an hour, or if not, stay on permanently. The 2 hour time length has completely thrown me. What the hell is wrong with it?

I thought my old speedtouch modem was broken, but the power light flashes when I plug it in, so I'll try reinstalling that. Maybe rule out if it's a modem problem.

Hmm, now it's been on this latest reconnect for 3hours and 3 minutes and still going. I just don't understand :icon23:

You need to call your ISP, and don't let them off the phone until you talk to someone high up... this isn't a problem on your end, and if so...it's very strange.

Just call 'em up and if they say it's on your end have them explain why something on your end would be causing it and what you could do to fix it.

I've been on the phone for a few years now and have a pretty good idea of how it works. At least in my little town.

can you switch to netwerrk cable instead of usb?

my isp doesnt believe this type of dis-service is a problemat all.

Thats if you take a tier 1 phone jockey's word for it. If you have a legitimate concern simply request a manager or tier 2 and you'll get a somewhat intelligent answer.

Still disconnecting every 2 hours. My line is capable of receiving max 6Mbits I've since found out. I really have no clue, but I am considering changing ISP. :icon33:

could be your house wiring. if possible hook the modem directly to where the telco line meets your house.

Yea, that's what I did. I moved my pc to my hallway and plugged the filter straight into the wall, instead of using my extension lead.

Yeah, but I'm not using an ethernet card, I'm using a USB modem. PPP over ATM. I guess that Raspppoe wouldn't be of use to me since it appears to be for ethernet cards? I have an ethernet card but not an ethernet modem.

Well my disconnecting seems to be ok now. I've been connected for over 5 hours. Zoom sent me a CD today with newer drivers, and it's been solid so far. I've also gotten rid of 2 major spywares that *may* have contributed. Well, one did, it was a dialler which sometimes disconnected me too.

My previous drivers wre obviously not the correct ones, which I'd downloaded from their site. And I'd lost my original CD that came with the modem when I bought it so I couldn't reinstall those drivers after having uninstalled them because of a configuration error message that kept popping up on reboot.

So, yay! So far. :icon25:
