IE/WMP bypassing hosts file

I've added several sites to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and pointed them to 127.0.0.1. However, when I open temp Internet folder, there are still resources from those sites. I cleared that directory and rebooted, but they still come back when I view a particular page. How is this possible? Isn't the hosts file the first place the DNS client checks?

Isn't it 127.0.0.1 for the first line and 0.0.0.0 for blocking adresses?

It's 127.0.0.1, but I believe it was 127.0.0.0 that was quicker.

Regardless... the sites are still loading. 127.0.0.1 / 0.0.0.0 is irrelevant. And, I've actually tried both.

Figured it out. I'm browsing through a proxy. So the proxy server is doing the DNS resolution, not my PC.

Blocked those sites by putting them in my proxy bypass list. :)
