Hi! Long time since my last post here (so long that i forgot my password and it wont send me one to my email :P)

Anyway, what i wanted to ask, and the classic question in tech forums (sorry), is which components should i buy with a limit of around 600€. What i need:

- New processor
- New motherboard
- New RAM
- New graphics card

I havent checked hardware news for ages so im a little lost hehe. Btw, i want it to play games mainly, and wouldnt want to have overheating problems!

Thanks in advance and glad this forum is back again :icon26:

Nice combo would be:

ASUS A8N-SLI for 120e
Athlon 64 3200+ Venice for 175e
Kingston ValueRAM 2x 512 PC3200 for 100e
Leadtek 6800 LE TDH 256 DDR3 for 205e

Overclock the 3200+ Venice, Unlock & clock the 6800LE and you have one mean machine. And pretty cheap too :)

Well 600 Euro is $722.76 in USD.

Unfortunatly I do not believe that newegg ships to Europe.

So I don't know where you can buy the stuff, but here is what I would buy.

Now I would definatly get a 6800GT, but a different brand is prolly ok. The 6800GT are dropping in price due to the new 7800GTX.
Also I'm sure another mobo would work, preferably MSI, ASUS, BFG Tech, or ABit tho.

what you basically want is
  • A good socket 939 mobo
An Athlon 64 socket 939 processor with a Venice or San Diego core
    A 6800GT
    1GB of RAM

Here is a good currency converter

Bit like my config there, Kills on Site (y) . I especially chose the 6800LE for price reasons. I based my prices on dutch (euro) prices. All the shit is more expensive over here...

You americans have it too easy >:E

yeah here in spain the hardware is very expensive too. i fear i cannot afford a 6800GT pci-e since they are around 380€ :tear:.
btw, the 6800LE vs 6600GT is a bit like 9800 non pro vs 9600pro? I mean, same structure as the 6800 but tunned down, so its still faster than a tunned 6600 and with more room for overclocking?

edit: another question:

6800LE pci-e or 6800GT AGP ?

from what i read a while ago, the difference between pci-e and agp is not noticeable, is that true?

Performance wise I do not know, I believe the gap is very small; but you have to get whatever type your motherobard has. If you motherboard has a PCI-E 16x slot then you need a PCI-E 16x card.

Right now, video cards aren't fully taking advantage of the PCI-E so there isn't too big of a difference at this time... though if you want to upgrade in the future, that's a different story. So all things equal, I'd probably go for the PCI-E, especially if you're going to keep the computer for a few years.

Right now, I have the AGP Gainward 6800GT - it overclocks past the Ultra (I'm at 420MHz compared to the stock 350MHz). The 6600GT's still a sweet card though.
