Anyone here try switching the USB Pooling rate with an app such as this:

http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/US ... 05183690/1

I've been using it for a while but I don't know if it really feels any different. I've changed the pooling rate from 125hz (5ms) which is stock on XP I think, to 500hz (2ms), there is also 1000hz but I've heard it can cause some trouble (like other devices not functioning) so I haven't bothered trying it.

Also I've heard someone mention last week of mwadvanced.exe, a Logi app (I thinks) that makes the mouse 'more smooth'. Anyone ever heard of this or tried it? Supposedly czm uses it.

Kthx, that is all. =D

I use it, there is a noticable change in motion, but in all reality the difference when aiming is marginal when playing.

You mean mwadvanced or both of those methods?

I've been using 500 Hz for months and i'm installing the hacked usbport.sys with my unattended nLite install on fresh XP installs. :P mwadvanced is a moderately useful tool, but the 500 Hz USP polling frequency does make a noticable difference. Basically your mouse just registers small hand movements better. Small adjustments in your aim are better picked up, which feels very nice.

1000 Hz is overkill because there are no mice that really (effectively) support it. Some USB devices like modems/printers/scanners may malfunction too at frequencies higher than the default 125 Hz, and CPU usage peaks get higher too at 500 Hz. USB isn't very CPU efficient; i'm still waiting for a FireWire mouse. :icon25: I haven't really noticed any performance degradation so i'm still using it...

It doesn't work with wireless mice btw; the best ones (like the MX1000) have a maximum polling rate of 127 Hz.

Ok I have another question. If you have an MX518 mouse or any other type that let's you switch dpi settings on the fly, do you use this? I've had the 518 for a short while, but I don't see any real reason to switch dpi settings. 1600dpi does seem to have higher sensitivity in games. But, this effect can be counter-measured by lowering the built-in game sensitivity setting, so that you can find a nice setting you like. (Chances are that when you first play with 1600, all your games you will have to lower your sens. because it will feel higher).

I remember people saying they use it (switching the settings) going from fast aiming to smoother sniping.

I have a Razer Diamondback mouse (has the same sensor as the MX518), and i sometimes use the on-the-fly sensitivity change (hold a side button and scroll the mouse wheel at the same time). It works well (19 notches vs 3 or 5 on the Logitech i think), but in Q3 i'm used to using the same setting all the time so i don't have that much use for it; it's just convenient if your in-game setting is wrong because you can correct it without opening the console or whatever.
