just last night i burned an audio cd with nero and everything was fine.

today i tried burning another audio cd and everytime i insert a blank cd-r nero says "no disc inserted or drive not ready, try again", it doesnt even work with WMP.

now, i'm able to play/install games from the NEC and i'm able to watch DVD's, but for some reason i cant get it to recognize CD-r's..

wtf ? dont tell me its half way borked

also, i cant playback audio cd's and it takes near a minute to read the disc, no problems with reading diablo2 for example

When you burn a cd and you eject the disc, close the tray and reopen it, then insert a blank CD.

a dvd/cd burner reads the cd's the same regarldess of what disk you put it. its an issue in windows, not the disk.

you already stated that the cdr's dont work in a seperate 5x cd drive either. which would mean that it isnt the drive but something else.

but dvd's work with the other drive, so u'r telling me my IDE1 port could be going bad ?

i doubt its windows, cause i'm not getting any errors at all..

and why would the creative driver read a diablo2 cd and not the NEC ? which the NEC worked at 11am reading diablo2 cd

If you have a linux live cd then you could try burning from there, to determine if it's a windows issue.

you said a normal cd doesnt work in the 5x creative and you said it doesnt work in the nec. so its the nec? thats not really logical now is it?

Glad to hear that you got it fixed SoM. I'm locking this so that it doesn't degenerate any further.
