From what I can find, it's an opengl issue. Have you updated your video driver? Do you know if your video card supports opengl? If not you may have to get one that does.

This is the closest I could find.

The instructions for updating are in the Release Notes link a couple of lines below the download link.

I would make a restore point before installing them also. Just in case.

your video card must support the opengl standard ,yours does not.. directx support for quake3 is not enough ..directx video for quake3 is not used ,,directx for sound is.
if it's a laptop your screwed .. if it's a pc computer you have many upgrade choices depending on your budget.

Hmmm, guess I read wrong. Seemed the 3d Rage Pro 2x supported OpenGl. Though just barely.

edit: saw this in the description.

Quote:
Drivers will be available for all corporate operating systems and APIs, including Windows NT 4.0, Windows NT 5.0, Windows 95, Memphis, OS/2, MacOS, DirectX, OpenGL, Heidi and QuickDraw3D. This allows support for 3D applications such as SGI's Cosmo Player VRML 2.0 browser, which ATI will bundle with ATI products.

My mistake.

You can get a computer for $300 that will run Quake3 very well on max settings.

Or a new video card for $50. 400 MHz is fast enough to run Q3A (but just barely, though).

well, try this config: download

Go into C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\baseq3\ and rename or delete the q3config.cfg file that is there...then move the one you downloaded into the baseq3 folder.

Load the game and type the following in the console:

/cg_drawgun 1
/cg_drawstatus 1
/cg_draw2d 1

Then just bind whatever else you want to it and see how it run then...
