Working on some tutorials.

g/f has been out of town off and on all summer and I've been calling in sick a little too often for work, :icon30:. So I've had some time to learn a little about HTML/CSS and thought I would try and give back what I could to the community. Just finished typing up the good ol' "How to create a simple room" tutorial and was just wanting to get a little feedback so maybe I could get into a good habbit of making these things before I get too deep and end up with more mistakes than good advice.

I plan on adding a few things to the tutorial below, like the extreme basics on caulk, texturing only one face of a brush instead of every side of the brush at once ect... But I'm about to pass tonight, so I'll probably finish this tomorrow. If some of you could in the future, and now if you find the time, just read what i have here and tell me what I could do a little better, that would be great...

Like my sight says there are plenty of very well written tuts around the web, but when I started out there was a lot of little detials I felt might have been left out...

So anway, here it is

edit: Please excuse any spelling/grammer erros for tonight, I believe I caught all obivous ones, but wouldn't be supprised if a spell check would turn up many results. :( I doubled checked all links and images as well and think they are all in place. Guess this is what I get for sleeping so little. :icon29:

One more thing :icon32: I might have said some technical things totally wrong, or just explained something way off...I'm doing this off what I learned/and I guess what I missed out on. But these are the main things I wanting to knock out first...just anything where it seems like I'm talking out of my ass or whatever you find.

You should teach how to put a light in it or they won't see anything. Also it seems to me the tutorial is to cramped. Spread it out. For example the deselect thing in the first paragraph goes largely unnoticed when skimming over the article.

Also besides explaining how to do things explain why they must be done. For example why should completely seal the room. Why must i make brushes at least 32 units thick. Maybe make a seperate page to which you can link which explains these problems in detail, how they look and how to fix them.

Code: Select all

You get the idea.

I was writing "deselecting" then I thought, "I am not writing a tutorial so why am I going to spend a good half hour of my day doing this?" And I stopped. Basically I was saying write it in really big 1337 lingo.

did someone just make an asshole out of himself ? ;)

Borke, im wondering why we actually need a new basic room tutorial? there's only so much you can do wrong with that, and there's plenty of 'em around

well, either way it goes I'm planning on adding a bit more to the site...like I've said three times now. I also plan on adding quite a bit to the current page you can view, as far as the basic commads and general information about a few things...like I've said twice now. Care to read?

It looks very professional. Very step-by-step.
