I tried some last night... never had it before.

Jesus! What an incredibly potent and foul substance, and what a strange ritual that surrounds it - sugar and spoons and flames, it's some very weird yet mezmerizing shit. I could feel my brain melt after the first gulp... it was awful for a second, but then my nervesystem shut down and it was all okay again.

Fuck, i'm not trying that again any time soon.

There. The wormwood is supposed to cause hallucinations, though ive been told it's largely a myth. The alcohol will kill you before you drink enough to see stuff, they said.

I did two shots of it one night at a party, no spoons or flames though. It was potent stuff, very... relaxing.

I forgot that about 20 some years ago when I was in the service in Japan I drank alot of it. A Singapore Sling is the only drink I can think of at the moment and of course shots. 6 of em for last call. AH, those were the days...

It depens, if its the one served in clubs/bars it isent that dangerous.. but the "street" absint can get you killed FAST.

Did you actually get the real stuff? ( imported, usually would run you about $300 for a bottle )

i had some last year, when it was just dubbed legal in dutch0land.
its hardhitting but not as much as people make it to be (eg one sip: OMG i see smurfs !11one)

most absinth isn't the green fairy... its usually the equivilant of green everclear.
the stuff that actually has wormwood is alot harder to come by... i knew some people that managed to make their own. i hear it was ok. but if i was going to do a whack ass drug popular in the 1800's; i'd chase the dragon.

we had a LOT of this in our freshers year. Two of my flat mates went to Prague and brought a load back, we used to sit around melting sugar and knocking these back before going out. I could swear to god the sugar ritual is just to cause even more pain on your gutt, the sugar is not only fucking hot as hell when you swallow, but also sticks to the back of your throat.

you get varying %'s by the way, the 75% stuff is the lowest I've had, I managed 6 shots of 80% stuff before I felt like I needed my bed and the best I've had was 90%.

i once had a shot of moonshine patatoliquor. that numbs yer whole face within 3 seconds.
might also have something to do with the fact that i just woke up

Quite like Absynth really - have to say Potchien is far worse though - its an Irish spirit which totally numbs anything it touches on its way down. Tastes like petrol and kills the top layer of cells in your mouth

Stick to "Alcohol puro"

I found it in an Italian supermarket in a ski resort a few years ago and it claimed to be 90% alcohol. I presume the other 10% was just water as it was pure clear and had no taste. I don't know what it was intended for but we used to put a cap of it in what ever drink we were drinking and it seemed to quadrupole the strength of our drinks! Which is great because it means you can enjoy the flavour of any drink you like. Only cost 10 Euros for the ottle too!

May well have been the same stuff - i managed to make a cocktail out of the stuff, 50% potchien, 50% non-alcoholic fruit juices and other safe stuff. You wouldnt know it was alcoholic until you realised you were standing on the table shouting "ALBENO BABY CHUTNEY! FAIRY NURSES ARE COMING TO CURE OUR ILLS!!!" *
