Car Question - Fuel Injectors

So I just got this e-mail from the dealer that I've taken my car in to have recall issues taken care of.
With the rising cost of fuel, and increasing emission standards, it is imperative that your Wrx run at top fuel efficiency. One way to ensure this is to have your fuel injection system serviced.
Dirty or clogged fuel injectors can have a significant effect on performance and fuel economy. Injector flow can be decreased by up to 25% in 5,000 miles! That can cause reduction in acceleration and up to 10% in lost fuel economy. Advertised fuel cleaners in most fuels can help clean injectors overtime, however can leave build-up on intake valves, which will also cause a decrease in fuel economy and performance. This build-up will also cause higher emission levels.
Our Red Line SI-2 complete fuel system cleaner will clean injectors and intake valves therefore improving both performance and fuel economy. We recommend performing this service annually.
I was wondering about the ligitamacy of this information and also if anyone has the faintest idea of how much this would cost. Most importantly, is this something i can do myself as to not go through the whole song dance of futzing around with a dealership?

get a rochester q-jet and stick that sumbitch on, no need to worry about dirty injectors ever again.

There's no way your injectors' efficiency will be reduced by 25% in 5000 miles. They do get build-up in them over time, but this is just a case of the dealership trying to upsell you, and appropriate some of your money into their budget.
That being said, it isn't a bad idea to run a fuel system cleaner through your car every 8-12 months, whenever you think about it.

Yeah it does make a slight difference in performance. I'm not so sure it'd be neccessary every 5000 miles but it might not hurt it either. I had mine cleaned every 20,000k's I beleive.

yeah i thought this was some sort of give us money scheme but i just wanted to make sure. this is the first time they've ever sent anything like this to me where i'd actually have to pay so that's why i was wondering.
that being said i doubt anything in the fuel system has ever been cleaned or replaced. the only thing i know that's been done is regualr oil changes as i do that myself. i had my transmission fluid replaced a year ago or so so that should be fine. what things should i think about getting done maintnence wise seeing as i'm going on 60k here.

New plugs and plug wires, grease your joints and gears, have the tires rotated/balanced if you haven't done it in a while, replace your air filter and PCV valve, check for any wear or slickness on your belts.

you can get a high pressure flush of your fuel system from your dealer. i would think about this option every 60-80,000km.
basically they disconnect the fuel line at the engine and pump cleaner through at high pressure.

Considering that is a Horazontally Mounted 4 Cylender, It is easy for the Carbon to build up on the injector's and the valves.. so yes, it is possable for this to happen,
now dont get me Wrong, i dont think that its Very common, but i feel that it is possable Especally if you run "regular" Gass...
dont get me Started on those Regular Gass users..

In the old days gas was just gas. Now it comes pre mixed with fuel cleaner in it. I'd be very surprised if your fuel injects have any crud in them. Your more likely to get bad performance by using the wrong grade of fuel, spark plugs, or running your radiator hot.

wtf is "regular gass"? Your car is supposed to run on the gas its rated for, useless to run a civic on high-octane gas. I don't remeber what the WRX is supposed to run on though. If its supposed to run on high-octane, then yea its retarded to run it on low-octane.

wrx is "premium" only. here that's like 93 octane, which is kinda pitiful.

premium does burn better or more complete is the word. anyone with a standard can check this. with reg gas, try starting in 2nd or 3rd gear, whatever gear it takes to get a few "pings/knocks" from the motor. next time you fill up, use premium. now try the same test and notice that the pings/knocks are gone when bogging it down with high gears.

higher octane just burns better and cleaner.. ive NEVER put anything under 91 in any car ive owned.. would be stupid to run that piss water through an engine..

93 octane here is the same as 98 (or whatever the highest is) in Europe. They just use a different system to rate it here and in Europe.

It detonates faster, thus high-compression engines and force-fed engines need it. Putting anything other than "regular" gas in your Blazer (or whatever SUV you were raving about before) is completely useless.

Oh look, TB has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Again.
