1 billion dollars spend to prevent parts falling off on liftoff and they still can't get it right.
Maybe NASA never will because its become a steaming pile of wank.
They would have been better giving that billion dollars to Burt Rutan and got the fucking job done right. :icon33:

That has the least amout of info I've ever read. What the hell are they going to do then, turn around or keep going?

They are so worried about failure that they don't have the balls to move forward.
THAT is the problem.

If they did and something went wrong, you'd be the first dink jumping up and downing screaming at them for not being safe enough.

Thanks for pulling that assumption out of your ass.
Wrong.
The shuttle has so much fucking safety redundancy bullshit built in that its a failure every time they try to launch it because of it.
Can you imagine all the wagons turning around from going west 300 years ago because a gun misfired and killed someone?

Canidae, if something happened it could very well destroy NASA or at least ground them for the next 2-3 years.

Did that bird just run into it, or did it die and fall onto the thing? It appears the rocket is still on the launch-pad with the scaffolding in the background...

I read that the bird didn't do any damage, or something.

No, that is the result, the problem is government funding.

Yes, they need money, these shuttles are pretty old, they're just literally falling apart. People don't seem to think the space program is very important any more. I think they need to hire a really good PR person and start a big campaign to educate people as to why it is so important.

Maybe try designing a new shuttle/launcher combination which is a bit stronger against this shit. How old are they now?

that's the thing though - when they're asking for money, presumably they've got a situation where it costs X million to fix up the shitty old vehicles they've already got or X billion to design and build new ones from scratch.
be good if space travel replaced war as a basis for the global economy one day - all they need to come up with is really big passenger carrying ships that can get outside the atmosphere, eject their cargo of poor/third world people and american soldiers into space and then glide back down to earth.
same economic benefits as a war, without ruining everybody elses television with pictures of burning corpses in godforsaken deserts. just say they went out to colonize mars or something.

Maybe they should start using rockets and shutles that aren't 30 fucking years old.
