This is a little strange.
I have an LCD monitor [an OAC] and it has worked fine for the 8 months or so that I have had it. Today for no good reason, it started dimming and shut off. The power light is still on, but the screen goes dark. Restartee tyhe computer and it was fine for a while and then the screen went black agina. I unplugged after this happened several times.
I seitched monitors with one downstairs which is a crt. The crt works fine and has not gone out. The lcd that I plugged in downstiars is working fine down there.
Both computers are XP with SP2. ANy ideas

I just plugged my LCD into another computer and it works fine on it.
I did change some fans recently, but I just replaced what was there. I had some multicolored ones and I changed them to blue. I thought maybe it was a power issue, but the CRT monitor works fine and it would use more power than the LCD right?

sounds like the monitor has gone gay.
gay, (like all queer terms) derives itself from the french language, it's root being baise, meaning "broken self-image," so you should probably buy a new one. Seriously, keep it on the other PC for awhile, my guess is it will start acting up just like it did on the original machine.

Could it be any kind of energy saving settings on the first computer?
I don't see how the fans would have anything to do with this. Unless the PC is overheating and crashing, but it doesn't sound like that's got anything to do with it.

Sounds to me like a video card issue. Are the display settings set the same in all of your test situations?
Maybe your settings were set higher with the LCD and your video card doesn't like it.
Does your LCD have a digital input? If so, are you converting it with an adaptor?
Maybe your digital output is bad on the video card or the adapter is on the fritz.

It has worked fine for about 8 months. I havent changed anything except for replacing the fans. I had 4 fans before but they were multicolored and I changed to blue.
Its strange that the crt monitor works fine on it. I thought of a power issue, but the crt would take more power than the lcd and the crt works great.
Windows isnt crashing because when my monitor comes on for a few seconds everything looks normal

Sounds like the LCD backlight going belly-up. Seen this a couple of times on LCD's and LCD laptop screens.
It starts intermittantly, but will get worse. YOu need to replace the backlight and/or inverter if it goes. It's generally not worth it, as a new screen only costs a little more.
You can check the above by checking (With a flashlight) if the original pixels are still on the screen, but very dark. If they are, your monitor is broke, if the screen is completely black it's a different fuckup.
