Networking

I did have a wired network, but I just bought a Linksys wireless router. I have one computer with windows 2000 Pro, sp4 and the laptop is XP Pro sp2.

I made each machine a workgroup computer, but when I check in network settings, I only see the computer that I am on. It doesnt show the other computer, yet they are both in the same workgroup.

Is there something here that needs to be done with windows 2000 or is it the wireless setup?

When I went through to create the network, it said something about the Local area connection being unplugged. I checked a box to ignore the unplugged connection and proceeded.

Shouldnt it have reconnized the wireless connection?

That unplugged LAN connection will be your (wired) NIC - ignore it. First things first, can you ping the other computers?

Make sure there is no firewall software running either.

Just the windows firewall. I will turn that off on the XP computer and see what happens.
