Wtf? Screen Res issue

if thats what you can call it anyway. When playing quake it used to be propper full screen, but now i get a thick black line around the game which is really annoying, and i have no idea why. It is only like this in game aswell, on menu screens it is normal as ever.
Anyone have any idea why?

Press +, not on the numpad, the one besides backspace

problem, i have it binded to something already, so when i press it it does what i binded it to do not increase the screen size, so then i did /unbind =, but now i think ive unbinded it from the screen increase thing :(, can u get me out of this shit any other way?

By the way i got another question related slightly to this, i also binded my F1 button (on another comp) to something, then realised it was vote yes, so i did /unbind F1 and again it does nothing at all now :(
does any1 know the command for voting yes????
