Man Tasered by Phoenix police dies after struggle

PHOENIX -- A 47-year-old man died after struggling with three Phoenix police officers, who said they had to use Tasers to subdue him.

The confrontation occurred last night at a fast-food restaurant in north Phoenix.

Officers were called to the Tacos Jalisco at Seventh Street and Mountainview after the suspect had vandalized two restrooms.

Employees told police the man appeared to be crazed -- that they had seen him hitting the window of a nearby business with a metal rod before entering the restaurant.

Police say the suspect was extremely combative as three officers attempted to take him into custody, and that at least one officer used a Taser.

When they got outside, the officers said they noticed that the suspect's breathing had slowed. Paramedics were called and the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died a short time later.

Better to have broken bones from a nightstick than a stopped heart.

And from the sound of it, he was obviously in need of some sort of serious physical restraint.

Fun fact: night sticks are carefully designed so that they'll break before being powerful enough to crack or break an average human skull. It has to do with the wood used. For example: the quality of wood used in tire-irons would cause the wood to bend around and crush the human skull. Don't fuck around with tire-irons.

Oh bullshit. I have no problems with a sound thrashing to someone when they are violent and there is no alternative.

I even get some kind of perverse satisfaction out of it in some cases - when it's someone who has hurt people and been a general jackass.

But that's totally different from the taser debate.

Different types of wood have different strengths. Supposedly night stick are only supposed to be strong enough only to knock somebody out. If too much force or whatever is put on it, it should just crack or break. They're called "night sticks" for a reason.

So how do they determine what the exact force upon which they should break is? Do they account for the difference in strength of officers, difference in bone density of different individuals?

My friend (a cop) was really surprised to hear this about his PR24.

Speaking of tasers, i saw some great taser footage the other day.. some black girl had been pulled over for something serious, and she would not get out of the car. She was talking to someone (her bf?) on her cell phone, and would not get off the phone no matter how many times the cops told her. Anyway, they zapped the shit out of her, dragged her out onto the street. She started screaming and struggling they zapped her again.

Not that Im the type to take pleasure in someone elses misery, but that bitch was SOOOOO asking for it. Ill try to find it if anyone gives a shit.

I doubt it would be a guarantee. And perhaps it's wrong, but my uncle's one of those weapons/hunting/camping nuts. You know, the kind that knows something about everything to do with weapons, what they're made of, etc.
