Quick question people. I'm thinking of replacing my microsoft intellimouse explorer V3.0, and the only decent mouse available in the shops, pc world in fact, is the logitech MX510. Is it good? It's 800dpi which is more than my mouse, and apparently it has 8 buttons compared to my 5 buttons. Shall I get it? What's the size like? My one is quite big in the hand, although I've gotten used to it. Tbh, a slightly smaller one would be good.

I have the MX700 and MX1000

The 700 is the wireless equivalent of the 510 and I love it.

Today's wireless mice are just as good as the corded especially the MX1000 which in my opinion the best mouse ever made.

So my answer is yes, get it.

they're a bit bulky (and heavy) compared to a regular-size mouse, but they're great things otherwise. well built, the extra buttons are intuitive and they all respond with a noticeable click. great piece of kit :icon14:

..but if you're looking for a small/regular mouse, maybe try something else.

while we're on a consumer goods one - was it you that was looking up headphones a while back (proper ones not walkman ones)? any recommendations? my sennheisers are on the way out.

Cool, thanks guys. That sorts it then. Off I go then to buy the MX510, (actually discontinued at pc world but they tell me one of my local stores has 5 left), and, an allsop raindrop pad. :)

mouse sensitivity /control I like the mx 518, 500, and then the 510. If I had a larger screen I'd probable like 518, 510, 500. They're all great mice. I wouldn't get the 1000, because the laser acts funny every time it's picked up. Even though the 518 plays better then the 500 or 510; it's two buttons short. 518 use buttons 11 and 10 to control the sensitivity of the mouse.

Too late, I have now got an MX510. :) Yea I was told to get the 518, but reviews by everyone on here were favourable on the 510, and I'm an impatient bastard when it comes to buying things. Tbh, when I think that zero 4 uses a basic microsoft ball mouse, it does make me wonder how important extra dpi really is. Anyway, it's actually no heavier than my microsoft and on the box it says ' now, 10% lighter!'. In terms of size, it's about the same, well, minutely bigger. That's ok, but it seems they make mice only for people with big hands. I think it's gonna be fun to use.

This is the very allsop I have:

I saw this, and was very tempted because it's heavy and wouldn't move around, but, I wanted to go with a basic allsop since it's been recommended. But for only £14.99, this seems like a nice pad:

Don't get teh MX510 when the MX518 is out. I had both (using the latter now), and it's way better. It's as light as the 510 is when the weight inside it is taken out (the 510's weight that is).

Wireless mice is shit. Heavy and laggy. I have tested 1000 and there is delay compared to wired mice, so it's shit.

Ok, I have the MX510 up and running, everything working in Q3, etc.
So, I'm curious to know for those that went from the 510 to the 518. How has the 518 improved things compared to when you had the 510? Are you winning more?

The MX510 has no precision loss in comparison to the MX518. WHat it DOES lack is the ability to change in real time the resolution in which it tracks. WHich means in english, you can down the senstivity on your mouse on the fly for sniping/long distance situations, then bump it back up when your done to continue the high speed destruction.

I have also found other great uses for it, such as in BF2. The heavy support machine gun is more accurate when I step down the sens from 1600 to 800dpi. It's just easier to make those minor, incremental movements than with a standard mouse. Same with the Blackhawk minigun and all other vehicle mounted guns. Also the commander screen is easier to navigate when your mouse isnt' flying all over the place.

Q3 doesn't benefit too much from the adjustable resolution though because it's too quickly paced. Hardly does one get a sniping chance that last more than a fraction of a second, so in cases like that the mouse is useless and you have to rely on good old aim. :)
