I'm looking to get one of each very soon, but it's hard to find reviews (although the ones I did find, are quite favorable on both).

whats to know? the x2 is obviously blazing along with the gtx(fastest card out atm).

ati has their new lineup coming out in less than a month with supposed immediate availability.

i would wait to see what ati has before dropping the dough on that 7800.

Not a bad thought...

But I have to admit, my experiences with ATI have been less than pleasant so i'm really reluctant to buy another one of their cards.

Performance aside, I have found a far higher quality of product with Nvidia (on MSI or ASUS cards).

Course.. that said, ATI does have FAR better customer support than Nvidia. I do like their minimalistic hassle approach on getting a card serviced or replaced under warranty.

I would also wait to see what ATIs next line of cards do compared to the 7800GTX, and hopefully drop the price of the 7800GTX or make nVIDIA make a higher or lower clocked version. Personally I also have had bad ATI experiences.

On the customer service note I had my 5700 Ultra's fan die on me and BFG Tech replaced it within two weeks with no charge to me and offered to send me a replacement so I wouldn't be without a card, but I had an old GeForce 4 so I declined. Of course that is working through BFG Tech, not nVIDIA, but I think BFG Tech is a really awesome comapany and if you buy a 7800 GTX then buy theirs

ati could have hdr+AA. that would be worth waiting a month.

I'd go with the 7800GT over the GTX. But wait for ATi's products to come out. The prices for everything should be lower.

You will see very little difference between the 7800GT and 7800GTX unless you're running an Athlon 64 at 2.6GHz or more. It needs an extremely fast CPU to make use of it. Also, running at above 1600x1200 resolution really lets it stretch it's legs.

The fastest Athlon 64 X2 is 2.4GHz. So the 7800GT would be within maybe 5% of the GTX. Not bad for $100+ less.
