These are my current specs

-AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8 Gigahertz)
-512 mb pc2700 ddr sdram
-Asus A7V8X-X Motherboard
-Geforce FX 5200 (8X agp)128 mb

Will this system run doom 3 on an 800X600 resolution (I never game higher) with medium to high quality or is there something i must improve to do this. As it is i don't have a lot of buck and medium to high quality is all i want.

Yes, it should. I have a very similar system.

Athlon XP 2200+
512 pc2100 ddr
ATI - AIW radeon 9200 128 mb

Runs smooth on medium quality at 800x600.

Yes, well i'm doubting on the damn gfx card. It timedemos quake at 125 fps. And some other game in a far off time used to still fuck up with this card. I'm going to look for some benchmark between those two since the rest of the system is ok.

Your card is 400 mhz and mine is 350 mhz. any idea how that might affect it?

That was the only thing that i thought might make it different. My mb only lets me run at 4x though so that might possibly make up the difference. Not sure though. Mebbe someone with more vidcard knowledge can answer that.

It says that mine beats yours with aa and such on and that it is easier to overclock. Looking into a slight overclock now, never done it.

Coolies. :icon14: Ought to do it then.

Overclocking will simply void my warranty but i don't care about that. I don't need to push it to extremes simply want to near that 400 mhz level of yours. Now how do i go about this?

Lol memory speed started at 333 mhz, now 340. I'm actually nervous, that doesn't happen often.

optimal it says 310 core 456 mem. Think i'll go with the standard 250 core and 400 mem then

Going with 260 core and 400 mem i'm getting 7 fps extra in :q3:
Now to find doom3 for a nice buck

I doubt your graphics card will be able to handle it. I've got a FX 5900 myself and I usually don't get much more than 40 FPS in 800x600. Problem is hardware shaders are butt-ugly slow on the FX series.

Try a few games of Nexuiz on your rig (in real-time lighted mode) and see how well it performs. It's somewhat comparable to D3 in that respect.

5-10 fps :P. Still, doom could be tweaked a bit i think without losing the atmosphere

One thing to try is turning off shadows. Upped my fps considerably.

That's kinda the entire ambiance of the game isn't it.

Turn off shadows.

It doesn't make it completely shadowless or anything. Lemme see if I can get a good screenshot of it both ways right quick.
