I have my field day for hunter's ed coming up soon. I need some suggestions for memorizing a pretty good amount of words. "10 Commandments of Firearm Safety". Which I was told will have to be wrritin out word for word on the exam.
I can sum them up pretty good, but the order gets screwy after 4th or 5th one. I'm sure someone here can give me some tactics for remembering the wording.
Here they are..lol I'm basically typing all this out for my sake and to show how much I have to memorize. :icon23:
10 Commandments of Firearm Safety
---------------------------------
1. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
2. Keep the muzzel pointed in a safe direction. Keep the action open and unloaded. Keep the safety on and your finger off the tigger.
3. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions. Check the chamber and magazine everytime you pick it up. Only carry and use ammunition appropriate for your firearm.
4. Never point a firearm at anything you do not intend to shoot. Agree to safe fields of fire for yourself and hunting companions and never swing beyond your area.
5. Positively indentify your target and what lies beyond. Make sure there is an adequate backstop when hunting or target practicing.
6. Unload your firearm when climbing a tree, crossing a fence, jumping a ditch or traversing slippery or steep terrain. Never pull a firearm toward you be the muzzel.
7. Be aware of the potential for ricochet. Never shoot at a hard, flat surface or water.
8. Unload firearms when not in use, leaving the action open. Transport and carry firearms unloaded and cased when travelling to and from the field or target practice.
9. Store firearms and ammuntion separately in locked compartments and beyond the reach of childern.
10. Never use alcohol or drugs that can impair your judgement before or while shooting.

Or just don't hunt. Easier, and you don't have to kill animals that were otherwise enjoying their day that way.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to finish grilling my steak.

Thats kinda what I'm thinking so far for a basic summary. Seems simple enough..hmmm :icon26:

just make sure you erase the sentence if you write it on your test, i think they'd kick you out of hunter camp if they thought you were gay

I'm with TNF, but if you really must, I'd advise using a mnemonic like BT posted, but also to go through the checklist and actually visualize the procedures.
Also visualize scenarios where the procedures could be life saving - create a simulation in your mind. That way you might be able to appreciate the wisdom on an emotional level, and it will stick in your head, sorta like how you could probably list all the things you need to do in order to drive safely.

so if i want free meat instead of buying it at the store somehow thats wrong?
surely taking an animal down with a well placed bullet or arrow in the wild is more humane than the whole farm/slaughterhouse operation?

I agree, it's far more humane than letting them starve to death due to overpopulation. I don't care for bowhunting because I think a lot of people can't hit shit with a bow and end up wounding the animal and letting it bleed out.
The same can be said for retards with rifles, but there's a better chance that Billy Bob will kill what he's shooting with his .460 Weatherby magnum than a broadhead.
edit: btw, Ted Nugent is the fucking man.

yeah some people get a little carried away. hunting is definately vital along the lines of conservation in a healthyanimal population.

Natives have special rights in Canada as well, above and beyond the average non-native citizen.

Funny how people bring up things like 'humane' which implies being treated like a human in reference to killing and eating animals.

no that's not what i meant. but it is funny how anti-hunting people like to counter with that line.
try not to think of the rednecks you see on tv with spotlights and a .50cal machine gun mounted on the back of a pickup barreling down the road in search of bambi.
instead imagine 2 men in -30c, trudging through the snow for hours(sometimes days). finally spotting a moose with a decent kill shot. bam. funs over, triggers been pulled. now you have 1500lbs of animal in the middle of nowhere you have to get out to the road.
sounds easy huh?
