Scratched Cd

Haha, I'm in quite a perdicement.. Ok first of all, some of you are gonna say "your trying to use a pirated copy, lolz busted" but thats not really the case, so just give me the benefit of the doubt, ay? Anyways, here's my story.

I just digged up a my old disk of Quake 3 I bought a looong time ago, and wanted to play it again with all the recent hype of quake 4.. I have the cd key and everything, but the disk is too scratched up to install.. I did install a pirated copy *but not illegal since I have the original cd-key/disk* and when I join a server, it says "invalid game folder"..

1. How can I fix it so it wont give me that error *I have the directory to c:/program files/Quake III Arena*, and if it is unfixable, go to #2

I remember, not long ago, maybe 2-4 weeks I saw Quake 3 in the 10 dollar rack at wal-mart, went there today to get it, and it wasnt there :(. I just got back from a hour trip, going out of town to another wal-mart, of the hopes they'll have it.. And they didn't..

2. Is there anyplace online where I can buy it online, and then download it *for example, like half life 2*..

Thanks guys..

First update quake to the 1.32 point release.

Then try updating punkbuster with pbweb.exe.
Place it in c:/program files/Quake III Arena/pb and the run it twice.

You know, and I wish more people did this, take a picture of the Q3 CD by your monitor and have the browser open and on this page so we can really see that you have the disk.

Tried just coping the game folder from the cd to your HDD?

Tried buffing the bejesus out of it with tooth paste?

Just make sure you rinse it off really good and get it dry.

did the 1.32 patch run without errors, or did you download a version that was already at 1.32?

does it run in single player?

It came with version 1.12, or something like that, and I updated it to 1.32 with no problems what-so-ever, and can play single player, and *some* servers, most likley cracked servers.

I'm about to try the toothpaste thing, haha, I heard about doing that before, but forgot about it.

And thanks everyone for your advice

EDIT: Toothpaste thing didn't help it much.. But be damned if my cd has gengivitis!

EDITEDIT: Aaaay, I fixed it! Thanks everyone for your help, and I hope to be a part of this community.
