What do you make of this? Happens every time shortly after reaching the desktop on a restart.
Windows XP Pro
Radeon 9700 Pro 5.6 (5.7?) Drivers
GFX card overheating? Didn't change anything at all on my PC recently though, and 3D Games work fine cept for the corruption.

hmm. some people have noticed extra heat from the 5.7's. would be worth a try to download the 5.8's from ati.
mind you there is no 3d going on so that might not be the problem. get the 5.8's anyway and try that first.

I just checked and I'm running 5.6 though.
Okay. btw, it says "welcome" at the top right of my screen now, from the welcome screen on Windows XP as if it's burned in. w3ird.

try 5.8 anyways. use the tool KoS suggested or the ati uninstall tool packed with the drivers.

A complete driver clean up with the program (instead of a plain reinstall) seems to have fixed it...for now. Hopefully it stays that way.

My dad's laptop was doing that exact thing not so long ago as well... Popped the bezel off and reseated the video connector and all was well.
I have no idea how that would translate to a Desktop though... Check the connections and that the card is seated properly in the computer I guess.
That fails.... .
....Yeah, send it back. :icon14:

Yea, my 9800 Pro was fucking up, I RMAed to for a replacement but Newegg didn't have any so I got a full refund. Got myself a 6800GT and couldn't be happier. Not a single glitch.

Well, I have a Radeon 9700 Pro that is almost 2 1/2 years old so maybe it's just dying of age. I'll install some really old drivers and see if it doesn't happen again.
