characters all look the same?

Yo i'm new here but have been playing quake for a long time now and when i set up a skirmish match for ex. team deathmatch....the opposite team comes out fine 'bones' looks like a skeleton and what not....but my team they all look like 'Sarge' ....This really takes away from gaming experience...i already tried the 'force player models' button in settings but that makes both teams look like 'Sarge' so i don't know how to fix this problem. Help is ver much appreciated thanks

i'm the only Sarge...my team usually consists of Xaero, Visor, TankJR, and uriel....but they all look like Sarge there name is still displayed over their heads as normal but they all look alike...

ok i went found baseq3 i clicked q3config.cfg opened it with word pad and the only thing there is "// generated by quake, do not modify"

from OSP docs:
cg_enemyModel <modelname> (default = "" - disabled)
Setting this will force all players on the enemy team to
appear to have this model. Your teammates will retain their
models unless you specify g_forcemodel 1, which will force
all of your teammates to your current model.
maybe it's the same in vanilla q3? dunno...

When you open your Quake III Arena folder, you'll have all your mod folders right there. So if you were playing OSP (Just a name of a mod) you would go into Quake III Arena\OSP\q3config.cfg and open that one.

or u can use the menu system to turn off the force models - that is what is causing your team to all look like sarge. Cant remember exactly where it is, somewhere under controls, or similar.

ok I figured out how to check and it says cg_forcemodel "0" so this can't be the problem but i notice under that it said defferedmodel (or something like that) "1" what does that mean?

Defferedmodel. Didn't that have to do with too little memory.

too little memory? this computer i'm using is brand new and quake3 is the only thing on it.... there should be more then enough memory?

Duhard did you actually read what the TS' problem was? He's setting up a TDM game with bots, and he wants the bots on his team to all look different (not all sarge). All teams should have different bots in that case and they should all look differently in the game unless you use cg_forcemodel 1.

deferred model makes new players joining a server use a default model when they first join the game, its a memory saving feature. Once they have been in game long enough to get fraged once, they swap to their model of choice - its helpful for peeps on dial up or running old machines, but should not cause you problems.

I have faced the same problem But I know the answer.Try to restart the map or you can delete the bots and add them back again.If that isnt working then it beats me,lol.

@riddla: pressing tab (+scores) does the same. You don't have to kill all bots first.

cg_deferPlayers: Loading of player models during the game - when set to 1, the loading of player models will not take place until the next map, or when you die, or toggle the scoreboard.
