Problem with .avi files

I just used VirtualDub to compress a video and when I play it in Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player, it comes up blank or green. The audio if fine though, and it plays perfectly in VLC. The first time I watch the video, it plays normally, but every time after that, it comes up blank. So does the one other video I made with VirtualDub. Restarting the PC allows me to watch the video once more, then it's borked for every other viewing.
I compressed both of them with XviD, and I have the latest version. Any ideas WTF's going on?
