Why? You don't have to call a person a retard in order to educate them. If they refer to the CPU simply say "You mean the tower, correct? The CPU is a component inside that tower." Yea...I guess I don't know how to distinguish between the abbreviation CPU and the term computer, so I just use them interchangeably because I am completely technologically illiterate.
Should the terms be used interchangeably in textbooks? Of course not. But do we use slightly inaccurate shorthand in our day to day conversations all the time? Yes.
