Help! How do I install Quake3 on Mac OS X 10.3.8?

I'm from the Windows PC world but I would like to install Quake 3 on my new PowerBook. I downloaded the Mac OS X version of the game from macgamefiles.com (Quake3-132-AltivecTest2.pkg.sit) and installed it. Then I copied over the baseq3 directory from Quake3 on my PC. Now the game only half works. The opening animation isn't there, only some of the sounds work, and several levels won't even load.

What is the correct way to install Quake3 on Mac OS X?

I have looked for a proper Mac version of the game, but all I can find are old boxed copies for Mac OS 9. The problem is, I'm running the newer Mac OS X and I don't have the "Classic" Mac OS 9 emulator / virtual machine installed so I can't even run the Mac installer from that version. I don't really want to have to install Classic if I can avoid it, Mac OS 9 was garbage.

Help!

Copying over the directory should have worked, but to be sure there's not some pak file screwing with things, strip it down to just the pak0.pk3-pak8.pk3 files and see if that works. If so, then you can try figuring out which pak file is causing the problems. You may also need to increase the com_hunkmegs value a bit (to 128 or so) which will allow Q3 to use more system memory and load things better.
