Just to piss you off... I just built my new q4 pc.
Asus A8N SLI Delux
AMD Dual Core (Venice) 3800
1GB Corsair XMS DDR 400
2 x GF XFX 7800 GT (SLI) :D
2 x 250GB 16mb cache SATA HD's
16x DVD/RW
Coolermaster Praetorian case

In Q3 runs at 33c

When the price of the dual 4400s come down ill get one of those but its like doubling the price of the 3800 almost, cunts.

Looks like the system I just ordered, except mine has 2 gb ram and only one 7800GT. Can't wait to see how it does. :icon14:

With a system like that you might as well have gotten 2gb of RAM, chris.

2gb DDR 533...

We'll have to see how effective SLI is and compare some timedemos, see how much notiecable the difference is between an SLI machine and one that isnt.

Yea, I'd definitely like to know too. My parts get here sometime this week (Wed or Thur), so this weekend I should be able to run some timedemos/benchmarks.

I've been running an Athlon XP 3200+ for a while, and my system never gets hotter than about 31C. I wonder how much warmer it will run with the dual-core 64-bit and the 7800.

Thats what i was worried a bout, especially with SLI so i got a decent case and basically made sure it was vented right. I'm pretty pleased with the result!

I believe I speak for the entire board (with shitty pcs) when I issue this challenge to chris.
Take a dive, but leave your system behind! >:E

If you can afford 3gb, even better, but insure it's the faster 533Mhz ram.

hmmm, Would I be correct in assuming that my 128mb ATI Radeon 9200 won't quite cut it?

It would probably run it on low detail, albeit not very well.

That's obviously just an educated guess though.

Bitter? You know me better than that runt. :p

Unfortunately, I have no idea what you were saying in your original post, so I can't really offer much advice.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I mean it ran doom3 pretty well, it wasn't until towards the end of the game when things got choppy in some areas. Time will tell...

I just ran some benchmarks, and it seems like it's my old 2600+ that's holding me back. I cannot get more than 58.1 FPS, no matter if I turn everything down to low @ 640x480.

So just getting a new graphics card is useless - I need a new CPU too, and undfortunately, that means getting a new motherboard and some RAM too. Plus, I need a larger HDD, my 80GB IDE drive just won't cut it anymore.

Fuck, this is going to be expensive.

Pretty sure the AMD mobos that support SLI can't do more than 400mhz, i'd have to check.

But im definitly going to be seroiusly upping the ram at the weekend when i can get chance to get to the shop.

Really dude it depends on a few things.

a) how much you wanna spend
b) what your current cpu/mem/mobo are etc

well its a transitional period for me with comps right now.

the machine the card will go in is a agp , p4 . 2.5

the price diff between these 2 cards doesnt matter because they are so close in price.

i just cant justify 400-500$ on a supercard for this agp no sli machine .

so its all a temp fix for q4 only.

i dont play at high res or with mega -high visual quality.

but i want rock solid smoothness.

Not a standard sized case? If not, there's probably no way to know until you buy one. Or you could see if nvidia's website (or a review) has the dimensions of the card listed and measure your box.

Well if its a temporary fix i'd just hold off a few days and see what performance people are getting out of q4 on the cards they have, ask about and theres your answer, but really a P4 2.5?? any P4 under 3.4ghz is gonna be a bottle neck to any new/decent card you buy so might be time for a new CPU as well if your planning on making a beast of a pc for q4!

on the size issue, i've had two different types of 6800, one was a 1 slot card and my 6800gt ultra took up two slots and was fucking big, it just fit in at a squeeze!
