Is it possible to clip a patch mesh to make an opening into the mountain shown below, or should I use multiple patch meshes and try to align the textures?

I am getting black surfaces instead of textures on some brushes. I have ambient light set to 25 25 25 and 4 point lights in the room. There are no errors when I compile.
