Meh, just replace ambient with sun, add more windows/lamps and you're good to go. I can't even remember the last time I made anything with point lights, mostly because they look unnatural. (light needs a source to look good, light entity is rather useful for spotlights instead)

Obsidian: Hints aren't necessary, while placing things outside the hull won't be as efficient as structural/detail when it comes to culling. Consider using different voxel chunk sizes for structural depending on settings, higher chunks = faster vis but slower runtime. Q3 handles open spaces badly so...

To improve vis, make the thing mark unimportant (not covering much) blocks as detail and use caulk on the invisible sides. I can't help you much in regards on how should detail be discriminated from structural, but your best bet would be to have this converter look for natural "rooms", tha...

Having experience with software like Radiant is enough to have you prepared for "serious" 3D. Took me a day to switch, really. (that's after months of doing complex models using brushwork though)

Eraser's map is probably a target practice tutorial like in TF2. That's what I see there, anyway.

If it's an SP game, you should consider not coding a thing and using E+ for a proof of concept proto, with little to no code modification. That's what I'm doing, with some extent of success.

If this was to be envmapped, I'd use a separate material and UV map for the blade anyway. For now it's meant for bare-bones diffuse, and I wouldn't use such UV space saving tricks (there are more) if I didn't know how to texture that.

Maya. I cut the blade in half to save UV space, the middle section mirrors halfway. Handle already fixed right after I posted this.

I had a good laugh. 
But the part about the skin is true, it looked like if someone applied the skin of some other character (could be sarge) on that model, and it's not the first time I saw that happen. Bug or some setting I didn't know of?
