Yeah, I call bullshit.

By the way, after I read the press conference transcript, I held my Evo with both hands 68 ways to Sunday and I couldn't make it drop a single bar. :olo: Eat shit, Jobs. :olo:

Afaik android phones have the same "five bars or none" thing as the iPhone

That or you just couldn't actually get your hand round your GINORMOUS phone :p

Human flesh will always attenuate signal strength on any phone, that's just physics. The key is to test your friggin' design to minimize the effect, instead of choosing form over function.

And actually, small man, I can get my hand around the phone. :p

it's a given apple dropped the ball on design, there's no doubting that but the massive media storm wasn't justified. must of been all the mac haters in the media and how they love to see steve make a mistake.

Nah, not the attenuation thing, the "dodgy interpretation of a log scale so it shows five bars or none" thing. See anandtech's recent article.

The fact is, all iPhone 4's have the antenna issue, so everyone is affected. Screen separation on the Evo? not a big issue because it affected very few.

That's the difference.

that's a stupid statement.

a) it's not a fault it's a design issue so there's no problem in build quality.
b) no one i know uses a smartphone without a case. like it or not using a case resolves the issue.

Fact is it's a great phone.

a) it still doesn't debunk the fact that the issue could affect all iPhone4 users at some point. Not so with the Evo.
b) okay, I know lots that do, especially iPhones.

So is mine. Cool.

Gotta love tech drama!

RIM co-CEO's statement:

Quote:
"Apple's attempt to draw RIM into Apple's self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple's claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public's understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple's difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM's customers don't need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple."

- Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie

why was the apple antenna designed like that in the first place? i follow that some people are saying that apple choice form over function, but what form? it doesnt look too different from previous iphone models. i haven't really been following too well, so don't really understand what's going on.

yup! that's the reason why i even took the smart phone plunge. this evo was my first smart device...before this i was using a flip phone. the phone call functionality is more of a selling point these days than anything else, lol.

It's the future of personal computing and this baby is the first one which IMO is up to the task of being powerful and versatile enough to be a useful.

Right on. If I was to buy a mega-phone (heh) like these, it would be an addition to my regular phone.

So rather than accept the fact that their latest little toy isn't all that, Jobs and his fanboy army try to bring other brands down to their level.

Lulz.

Apparently you missed my post addressing this issue, and yes, it's bad unless you turn a couple things off. I did a bit of research and with a few changes I get battery life every bit as good as my Blackberry Curve had. The only big thing that I had to switch off was the GPS, which is a minor annoyance. I turn it back on when I need it, and I plan on rooting the phone shortly and there's more I can do then.
Hey Geebs, are you going to get root access on your iPho...oh, that's right. Sorry.

like limiting applications to 1 at a time to save battery life.

really sometimes you all are just pathetic clinging to whatever negative aspect of the other side there is.
