actually, i really didnt enjoy the directors cut nearly as much, they changed some of the music, which really changes the feel of some of the scenes, and not in a good way.

my favorite thing about the movie, was sitting down with my friends and talking about it for hours and hours while out for coffee, they really removed that from this version, by just explaning everything alittle too much.

also the pacing at the end i felt was much better in the original aswell.

im not taking the piss here or anything, but it really felt that this version was made for the american audience.

Great movie.
I was surprised to see it at $9.99CDN at a local blockbuster.
Picked up a few copies, one for me and some for some friends.

Couldn't agree with you more Drön, Donnie Darko was a great movie, but the directors cut has ruined it a bit for me. Though I liked the extra scenes they added in (except for the placebo one, that one is lame), I plain hate the special effects and the graphics with "The Philosophy of Time Travel" over it. I own the Directors Cut version on DVD, basically because for some reason that's the only one I could buy. As soon as I see a store with the orginal I'll buy it.

To answer your question, I think you are thinking of this quote:

Quote:
Donnie: [in a letter] Dear Roberta Sparrow, I have reached the end of your book and... there are so many things that I need to ask you. Sometimes I'm afraid of what you might tell me. Sometimes I'm afraid that you'll tell me that this is not a work of fiction. I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep. I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to.

we've got the directors cut around here somewhere, my sister raves about it (she completely loves that movie) but i've yet to see it.

i might give it a shot soon, just to see what the hype is all about.

I actually liked some of the subtleties in the director's cut, although I recommend the original to be viewed first, as it is open to more than one interpretation.

One of the cool parts in director's cut was when donnie is sneaking out house at night in the beginning, and the dad has fallen asleep near tv. There is static on tv, but if you listen very carefully the american national anthem is playing. Very eerie effect - perhaps it was a subliminal suggestion that the tv was playing subliminal messages :)

So the director's cut ONLY has the director's cut? You can't like select to watch the original?
