Planning on getting it some point, it looks great.
It's also highly frustrating so sayeth the consensus.

Fuck that. Just played two hours, didn't see the alien and still shat my pants.

The levels are great only thing is there's some delay from the controller so may need an update and there's some pausing while loading during game play.

Apart from that it's scary as hell, didn't want to put it down.

I managed to find this for 30 dollars a couple of days ago. Most of the reviews I've seen are rating it pretty highly, so I'm quite excited check it out. Supposedly very authentic to the original Alien, and apparently 70s/80s Ridley Scott in general.

My friend has an occulus rift DK2... I'm offering to buy him Alien: Isolation if he'll play it on the rift. Honestly, you couldn't pay me to try it myself. "Isolation is a trauma machine masquerading as a video game" I think you'd be mentally fucked if you played the whole game in the rift

yes - at least there's a pistol you can loot off a dead body at one point. apparently it's useless against the alien, and i'm not sure it can take out the killer robots either

pretty sure tho

I read there's a bit where the alien fucked off for a while and you get to kill human looters using loud weapons without alerting the alien to your presence or something. Change of pace after an impossibly hard stealth part i'm sure (not sure though).

Sounds very interesting this game and i'm well pleased everyone's saying they got the atmosphere right, it's probably scary as hell. Will probably get it once it goes down in price a bit.

I like how the game doesn't let you get used to a certain mechanic. It keeps you guessing and it certainly makes you shit yourself when you think the alien's following a particular set of programmed rules for that section and it goes and fucking descends from a vent two foot from you.

While I think one of the best things is the sound design, I think whoever made the decision to have the Emergency save stations instead of a quick/autosave deserves a medal. The sense of relief upon seeing one after 15/20 minutes of creeping around praying not to be seen is unparalleled for me in gaming.

Dead Space had that too. It forces you to be cautious in your approach rather than just running around like a 12-yr old CoD tard or Geoff.

I watched the Let's Play video below. Click the link. Watch the video from there to the end (it's only like half a minute or so) but take note of the sound effects. It's really cool.

There's also a really great moment from here about a minute or so in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyL29Ps5Gyw#t=1001

And the good just keeps on coming right at the start here:

I think it's funny how this is seen as a great gameplay mechanic (it is) yet was seen as lol console poorons when Resident Evil did it way back when.

It took me a while to build up the stones to play Bioshock. This would make me produce much brown.

I was thinking of buying it, after having found some webshops that carry it for like €35 or so. However, since I only own an Xbox 360 and outdated PC, my only real option would be the Xbox 360 version, which probably looks like poop but also appears to suffer from framerate issues.

If there's one thing I learned from my Xbox 360 experiences with Bioshock Infinite, it's that framerate issues can kill a game. So I'll pass on this until I have a PC that can run it (whenever that may be).

I never played the old RE games so I can't comment on that, but it's a great mechanic as long as it's used well and doesn't feel out of place. The original Tomb Raider games on PS forced you to find crystals to save your game with, that was just laughable compared to the quicksave on PC.

quick saves ruin the experience of most games, especially fps's. they start to be designed with quick-saving in mind so they do all kinds of unfair bullshit to compensate

I'm too lazy to think. Lots of fps games with hit-scan enemies and you have to know exactly where all of them are to do it with low health
