config, and my connection is 512/126 yet I get between 13-37 fps and even in an empty server, my fps cycles continuously from 13-30's back to 13 no other apps running appart from gameranger either activity monitor show average 73% cpu usage with no apps open; I normally can get a stable 47-54 fps with q3 and gameranger running here is the config but I dont think this is the problem: // Canis canis Joined: 14 Jan 2001 Posts: 17305	Posted: 11-26-2005 02:17 AM                  In the activity monitor (which is just a GUI for "top") click the "%CPU" column and list the processes by order of CPU usage. Then see what processes are taking up most of the CPU (as well as which ones are taking most of the CPU time - you might need to add the column). I'm on my mom's 600Mhz G4 (upgraded B&W G3), and for CPU time I have these (in order of most CPU time): Safari Epson Scanner Monitor iTunes finder mount_webdav ...etc. For %CPU I ahve these: Activity Monitor - 6.5% Safari - 1.2 to 6.4% Epson Scanner Monitor - 0.2 to 1.1% iTunes - 0.2% The rest...0%

Top CPU users are: kernel task windowserver 2% activity monitor 39% safari 9% gameranger hardly registers ....I did have a second log in active, but have now closed it I've done a trace route to the server I access, and its okay for my 521/128 connection: --- 203.34.186.17 ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 46.591/57.494/125.672 ms edit the monitor is not showing the screensaver thing now, and if I want to close the terminal it says that will cancel some functions: login, tcsh, top - would that be bad? i think im in the shit here _________________ "Liberty, what crimes are committed in your name."
