well i dl'ed the demo and..........wow...awesome game. After i found own-age.com and watched annihilation, i had to have it.

the problem i have now is i cant join or even list available servers...
is this a function the demos do not have or is my network setup wrong..

i looked through some sites and it said the ports were 27960 so i put 26000 through 27960 in my router..did not work.

also i dl'ed a persons demo file (.dm_68 i think it was) but i cant load the demo i dl'ed..

thanks guys for the help. i am ready to be pwnt in pubs. :D

You'll need a cd key to play online. Also, the demo is version 1.16 and most servers are higher versions than that, mainly 1.32. There are some servers which cater for the demo version. It's easier to buy the full game which is dead cheap now, will give you a cdkey, and allow you to upgrade to later point releases.

Unless you got a cd key when you downloaded it? Btw, here's a q3 demo server: 217.172.182.41:27960

It's a uk server, so if you're in the USA or somewhere outside of europe, you'll have a higher ping which translates as, harder to frag someone! :p

Yeah, still plenty of peeps playing online.

Here are the demo servers. Good luck.

Type /connect serverip to join them. Although like Drum said, the game is dirt cheap now and a lot better than the demo. :)

Did you get the demo client 1.11 like so?

http://www.3dgamers.com/games/quake3arena/downloads/

I think there where older 'test' clients you might be using one of those. It prolly won't work with the official demo release.

The game is not dead, but only about 20 people on these forums still play.

Hmmm, demand musta go up for Q3 cuz it seems a tad bit higher than the last time I checked:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/st ... 56-2476859

Personally I wouldn't recommend getting a used copy because the person that is selling it might not have a working CD-key or whatnot. Best to contact them first and be absolutely sure.

Go to Tools | Options | Games look under 'Not Installed' and find a reference to the Demo (if Demo is not there just search for Quake 3) let it find the .exe and you're good to go. :)

The demo was version 1.11
I doubt theres many demo servers out there. I guess you can get The Q3 Gold package (which includes the Team Arena expansion as well I think) for something like $20 - $25

Try pointing to the demo exe it should still let you use it?

People here mostly play on these servers (well not all of them, but the regular Q3 players do)

http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74

Mind you, on this forum there's probably an odd 20 or so that still play the game. :p

3210 servers, 4721 players total (says ASE).

So yeah, theres plenty of places to get some games going. :icon32:

I dunno about leagues, mebbe someone here that plays in one can fill you in. :paranoid:

Make sure you download the latest Point Release 1.32 (patch). And you can download Seismovision to play demos easily. Use All-Seeing Eye to browse for servers. Finally, here are some q3 related links you should check out.
