Hello all, I'm a QuakeLive player (quite newb), and I'd like to play Quake with friends on LAN.
So, QuakeLive is not an option (no LAN support, we could play over the internet, but that would require all of us to have PRO accounts so that we can create and join our own games... which is a bit expensive for 2 days in the year).

That's why I'd like to play Quake3, however as a QuakeLive player I don't manage to find the same feeling in Quake3, so it's very disappointing. I tried to install CPMA, then maybe it's just a matter of config and I don't have the right one, but it's almost unplayable.

What would you recommand to do in our case for the lan ? Any advice for a .cfg so that Quake3 looks like when I play QuakeLive ?

Thanks !

Jahz

Quake 3 is very configurable (as is IOQuake3, http://ioquake3.org). Could you be more specific about the things you would like to change.

Unless you're having actual technical difficulties (like network lag or graphics problems) I find this hard to believe. Quake Live's gameplay is nearly identical to that of Quake 3. I never understood why people find it hard switching to or from Quake Live, as I don't really see the difference. Sure, there's a different HUD and a boatload of extra options on Quake Live, but the core game remains identical, is it not?

Maybe he's referring to the FPS-dependant jump height.

Set com_maxfps 125 on all clients,

They fixed it in CPMA and QL but the way they did it in CPMA made the strafejumps distances a bit harder.

I say play CPMA CQ3, it's better than QL. The slight difference in physics (caused by the CPMA jump height fix) you'll get used to, the other differences make it worth it.

In CPMA do:
/calllvote gameplay cq3
or
/callvote gp cq3
